In two weeks, Sofi mapped the focal point issue, which was the state of the company's official response to government deregulation. Once Sofi performed its standard function of separating the people from the problem, the two key managers, who had previously dismissed one another, began talking about shared ways in which the enormous reporting challenges could be addressed. By the end of a half-day executive briefing session, the two managers had used Sofi's six-step process to reach a solid consensus and create their own action map.
